Yale University's Response to Hurricane Katrina
From the Provost to Deans, Directors, and other members of the Yale faculties
As part of the University's response to the catastrophic events on the Gulf coast, Yale is exploring ways to assist college and university students whose education has been disrupted for an indefinite period of time. Although the specific ways Yale might assist such students would differ from school to school, we need to develop a clear and University-wide response to this emergency. A Yale task force is therefore being assembled to develop an effective response that can be announced by early next week. It is also very important that the University plan this assistance in coordination with other institutions. President Levin is therefore working with other schools through the auspices of the AAU.
If you receive requests or inquiries from colleagues or students from affected colleges and universities, please pass them on to the Provostís Office at provost@yale.edu. Similarly if you have ideas or suggestions that I might pass on to the task force, please send those to my office as well. Should you have a question or suggestion that you would prefer to discuss with someone, please be in touch with the associate or deputy provost you would normally call on an academic or administrative matter.
If you have questions about other kinds of humanitarian assistance to victims of the flooding, you may direct them to Rob Schwartz, Associate Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, who is the Yale point person for coordination of such efforts. His e-mail address is robert.schwartz@yale.edu .
