XIX.A.1   Office and Research Space

While available office space must first accommodate those who have not retired, every attempt will be made to provide office space to retired members of the faculty. Although research space is even more limited, it can also be assigned to retired ladder faculty if circumstances permit and need can be demonstrated, as for example by an active and well-funded research program. Assignment will be made by the Provost or appropriate professional school dean on the recommendation of the department chair. The amount of research space provided will, in most instances, be substantially less than the amount occupied before retirement. Assignments of office and laboratory space to retired faculty will be reviewed annually to determine whether renewal is possible in the context of competing needs.
