What is
a Strategic Vendor Contract?
Strategic
Vendor Contracts (SVC), are special contracts that Procurement
has established with selected vendors in order to maximize
the purchasing power of the University while reducing the
cost of goods and services. These contracts offer numerous
features to the community as well as provide an overall
best value for the University.
Why
should I use Strategic Vendor Contracts?
The
primary advantages of using Strategic Vendor Contracts are:
- competitive product pricing
- high-quality goods and services
- dedicated customer service representatives
Many
of the contracts offer additional advantages such as:
- desktop delivery to end user
- average order fill rates greater
than 90%
- free standard shipping on most products
- liberal return and credit policies
- access via Yale's e-procurement solution, "SciQuest"
- electronic invoicing option
- 'environmentally-friendly' initiatives
- departmental reporting
- online ordering capabilities
Where

Many Strategic Vendor Contracts are easily accessed through SciQuest, Yale's eprocurement solution. (In the solution, these contracts are denoted with a #2 flag.) What
method of payment do I use with a Strategic Vendor Contract?
If you order via SciQuest, you will use a Yale VIP number and appropriate Expenditure Type within that solution. We recommend using SciQuest for ordering whenever the supplier is available within the application.
For the remaining SVC's, you may opt to pay with a Yale Purchasing Card.

How
do I select a vendor if there is more than one for a commodity
in the Contract Listing?
If
there is more than one Strategic Vendor Contract available
in a commodity, you may shop with the vendor of your choice.
