Introduction

In 2005, the University pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 10% below the 1990 level by the year 2020 - a 43% reduction from the 2004 level.  The strategy for achieving this takes on many forms. Environmentally Preferable Purchasing or "green purchasing" is one very visible way to demonstrate Yale's commitment to the environment.

What is Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP)?

Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) refers to purchasing products that have a reduced negative effect on human health and/or the environment when compared to similar products and services.

What is Yale's position on green purchasing?

In support of EPP, University officers pledge their commitment and invite your participation to "buy green".

August 2005 - Message from the Provost and VP of Finance & Administration

July 2008 - Message to Departments regarding recycled-content paper usage

Over time, we will target various goods and services that are good candidates for environmentally preferable purchasing and encourage your commitment to purchasing those items from the recommended sources as needed. Together, we can help to make a difference in our Yale community and in the greater world environment!
