Managing Invoice Holds

What is an 'invoice hold'?

When an invoice is presented for payment that is missing required departmental approval or data, the Accounts Payable unit places the invoice on 'hold' to prevent invoice payment until outstanding issues are resolved.

How are invoice holds resolved?

Often Accounts Payable is able to resolve the issue without intervention from the Yale department associated with the invoice. However, sometimes intervention from the department is required. In this case, Yale staff who submit and approve invoices for payment can quickly and conveniently resolve invoice holds from their desktop with the help of a new online tool, the "AP Worklist".
