Printing to Clusters:
Windows 2000 & XP
Overview
Students with networked computers in their on-campus rooms can send print jobs to the laser printers in the computer clusters around campus. This makes it unnecessary to go to a cluster with a disk for the purpose of printing.
Setup a Printer
Before you can send a print job, you must "setup" the printer with Windows 2000 or XP. To do this, follow these instructions below. If you have any questions or problems, please email Student Computing.
- Choose Run from the Start menu, which is probably in the lower left corner of your screen.

- In the Run box, type \\uniprintps3 and then click on the OK button. A list
of printers should be displayed. If the printer you want is not displayed, instead type
\\uniprintps4 in the Run box and click OK. Note: If either of
these paths do not work, try substituting \\uniprintps3.its.yale.edu or
\\130.132.143.52 in for \\uniprintps3, and \\uniprintps4.its.yale.edu
or \\130.132.143.53 for \\uniprintps4.

- Once you have found the printer you would like to setup, double-click on its name in the
UniprintPS3 or UniprintPS4 box. A message will appear, telling you that the printer must be
setup before it can be used. Click Yes. The Add Printer Wizard will then run.

- If the setup has gone well, you should see a print queue window on your screen.
This window does not need to be open, so you can close it if you'd like. You have now setup a printer.

From here, printing is the same as it is under any other circumstances. Open the document you
would like to print, and then choose Printfrom the File menu. You will see a box similar
to the one below:
Select the printer you would like to print to from the Name box. Then click on the OK button, and your job will be sent to the printer queue.
You can then go to the cluster and release your job using the print station next to the printer you selected. On the print station, your print job will appear with the name you use to logon on your computer.
