Mac Font Installation

In order to avoid conflicts on the Mac that cause font menus to misbehave and fonts to disappear, Mac platform users should be particularly thorough in their efforts to remove prior versions of the Yale typeface. Here is a suggested procedure:

1. Prior to installing the new fonts, remove all old versions of the Yale typeface from the various font folders where they reside. Consider searching for "Yale" to locate font files in less obvious locations.

2. Use a program like OnyX to clear all old font caches that reside here and there in the Mac file structure.

3. Restart your computer when this cleanup process is complete.

4. Install your new fonts using your customary process.

In Mac OS X, you have two options for installing fonts: you can make them available only to your own account, or you can make them available to all users on the computer. In either case, you should ensure that you have already expanded any compressed fonts packages before attempting to install them.

To install fonts in Mac OS 10.3.x and later, using FontBook, follow the instructions below:

1. Locate the font file you wish to install, and double-click the icon. The FontBook will open and display the font.

2. Click Install Font.

By default, the application installs the font in the Font folder in the Library folder of your home directory, making it available only to you. This should be fine unless your computer has multiple registered users.

To make a font available to all registered users of the computer: in the FontBook application drag the font to the "Computer" folder in the "Collection" column.
