President's Public Service Fellowship 2009

Deadline:

  • Both an Electronic and a Hard Copy of your Application is due by 4:30 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2009. Electronic applications should be sent to PPSF@yale.edu and the hard copy must be mailed or personally delivered to the Yale University Office of New Haven and State Affairs, 433 Temple Street, 2nd floor. No extensions.

Qualification:

  • Applicants must not be in their final year of study, and must be in good academic standing.

Requirements of the Fellowship

  • The Fellowship is full-time and must be the primary work of Fellows during the summer. Fellows should plan accordingly. NOTE: Other summertime work is not encouraged and Fellows must discuss any other proposed part-time work in advance of the summer with the Director.
  • Before beginning work at their sites, Fellows will be part of a paid Orientation.
  • Fellowships will be for eight to eleven consecutive weeks between June 1 and August 14, 2009. The Fellowship Director will facilitate a meeting between the Fellow and agency supervisor to determine the exact length of each individual Fellowship.
  • All Fellows will be expected to participate in a specific number of weekly Fellowship meetings during the course of the Fellowship.
  • All Fellows will be expected to complete brief periodic reports during the time of the program, and to complete a final report by the end of the summer.

Orientation

  • There will be a mandatory orientation session for all selected 2009 Fellows on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The location will be announced.
  • The second mandatory orientation session will be held from the morning of Wednesday, May 27 through the evening of Saturday, May 30 2009.

Stipend Payment/Salary:

  • The stipend for undergraduates will be $500 per week. (For example, this will mean a stipend of $4,000 for 8 weeks, $5,000 for 10 weeks, and $6,000 for 12 weeks)

Application Procedures and Instructions

  • Undergraduate applicants to the President's Public Service Fellowship must select from the list of placement opportunities with New Haven nonprofit and public sector organizations available on the Fellowship web site, www.yale.edu/ppsf/placement.html
  • Download the Undergraduate Application (Word format). Follow all application instructions, and provide four signed copies of your application to the Yale University Office of New Haven and State Affairs, on or before the deadline. Also email an electronic copy of your application to PPSF@yale.edu
  • Notification to students regarding the status of their application will begin February 27 and conclude, at the latest, by March 6, 2009.
  • Prior to February 27, some applicants will be contacted for an interview.
