Applying To Be A Postdoc
Yale postdoctoral positions are often advertised in scholarly publication and on the internet. Alternatively, many postdoctoral applicants correspond directly with their future Yale mentors, or mentors may meet with potential postdocs at professional meetings or in response to presentations made in person or in print. In addition, we are experimenting with listing open positions at the bottom of this page, compliments of career.edu.
Once you find a position at Yale, you will receive a letter from your future faculty mentor that will explain the dates of your appointment, your funding, your responsibilities, and other details about your time at Yale. You will need to sign this letter and return it, along with 2 letters of recommendation. International postdocs will also need to secure an immigration visa to enter the U.S. The visa application process will be handled by the Yale department to which you apply and by the Yale Office of International Students and Scholars. It often takes several months for a visa to be approved, and you should factor this time into your plans for coming to Yale.
