Frances Rosenbluth, Ph.D., Columbia University, 1988, is Chair of the Department of Political Science and Director of the Leitner Program in Political Economy. She has received research support from the Fulbright Commission, the National Science Foundation, the Council on Foreign Affairs, and the Abe Foundation. She was awarded the Leubbert Prize for best book in comparative politics in 1997, best paper from the Comparative Section of the APSA in 2003, and best paper from the Political Economy Section of the APSA in 2004. Her current research concerns war and constitutions, the political economy of gender, and Japanese politics and political economy. Her most recent book is The Political Economy of Japan's Low Fertility (edited, forthcoming). Other recent publications include "The Political Economy of Gender" (with Torben Iversen, American Journal of Political Science, 2006) and "Long versus Short Coalitions" (with Kathleen Bawn, American Journal of Political Science, 2006). Her previous books are The Politics of Oligarchy: Institutional Choice in Prewar Japan, 1995; Japan’s Political Marketplace, 1993 (both co-authored with Mark Ramseyer); and Financial Politics in Contemporary Japan, 1989.
