Fields:
Political Philosophy & Contemporary Theory
Angélica
Bernal is a Ph.D. candidate in political science at Yale
University. Her dissertation, entitled “The Concept
of Founding,” re-examines the meaning of a founding
and argues for its reconceptualization from an authoritative
event in the past to a concept that is a continued site
of contestation, construction and reappropriation. Her
research interests are in the history of political thought,
democratic theory, feminist theory and constitutional
theory. She enjoys writing on a wide range of topics,
including the political philosophy of Hannah Arendt, the
European Union, Founding historiography, and indigenous
social movements. She is the editor of From Exclusion
to Participation: Indigenous Collective Rights in Ecuador
(Abya Yala Press, 2000). She is the recipient of fellowships
from the Fulbright Foundation and the Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation.
