Find Your Partner or Expel Your Competitor: Exotic Pairing States in Fermionic Superfluids with Unbalanced Pairing Species
Abstract: In this talk I will discuss the physics of a number of novel pairing states in fermionic superfluids, with pairing between different fermionic species of unequal densities, as well as phase transitions between different phases. I will argue that these states have close analogies with different phases of liquid crystals. Such novel states may be realized in superconductors and cold atom systems, as well as nuclear and quark matter. I will also discuss how to detect these phases in superconductors and cold atom systems.
