Corresponding Chandra X-ray Observatory image of the GOODS field; here color indicates energy of X-ray (blue is 4-8 keV, red is 0.4-2.0 keV, green is 2-4 keV). These X-ray sources are predominately accreting supermassive black holes, including some at very high redshift (large distances); the rest are closer galaxies with high star formation rates.
