Title: Quantum Chromodynamics on a lattice: supercomputers and a new
mathematical trick
Abstract: Lattice QCD is the only systematic nonperturbative tool to
do calculations in QCD. It has already been very successful at describing the
empirically known particle spectrum, but important challenges lie ahead. I will
describe two ways to meet these challenges. The first is the design of a special
supercomputer optimized for lattice QCD. The second is a novel mathematical
transformation (which originated in condensed matter physics) that can be used
to reformulate lattice QCD, leading to improved fermionic algorithms.
