Title: Quantum Dots - Science and Perhaps Technology
Abstract: Quantum dots are small, confined region of conducting material
that in some ways resemble artificial atoms, because they can be made to hold
just a few
electrons in a controlled way. Quantum dots fabricated lithographically are
particularly well suited for flowing electricity through, allowing a spectroscopy
based on current-voltage measurements. We discuss a range of topics concerning
transport in quantum dots, including their potential use as qubits for quantum
information processing.
