COURSE ORGANIZATIONPhysics 180 on the Web: http://www.yale.edu/phys180Up-to-date course information including reading assignments and problem sets will be available on the web at http://www.yale.edu/phys180. Problem sets will NOT be handed out in class. Past problem sets and their solutions, postings of changes to or hints for the problems in the current week's set, information and review sheets for exams, and copies of lecture notes will also be on the www page. Check the "News" page for updates.TextHalliday, Resnick and Walker, "Fundamentals of Physics," 6th ed. Chapters 1-21 will be covered in the fall term at the rate of 1-2 chapters per week, with some omissions. The two volume edition (combination of Volume 1, containing chapters 1-21, and Volume 2, which will be the text for Physics 181b) should be available at the Yale (Barnes & Noble) Bookstore. Special pricing is offered for the set, equal to the price of the one volume combined text. Note that this is a new edition so you won't be able to get it from students from previous years of Physics 180-181.Other materials needed for the course:Calculator, graph paper, a stapler, a ruler, a protractor, and a watch or clock with a second hand. Other easily obtainable materials, like coins, string or rubber bands, may be needed from time to time. |
