The Collections of the Yale Peabody Museum
Overseen by a board of 21 curators from the Yale University faculty, the exceptional collections of the Yale Peabody Museum are at the heart of University teaching, the interdisciplinary studies of researchers from around the world, and Museum exhibitions that communicate the importance and excitement of studying the earths history and diversity. There are more than 11 million specimens and objects held by the Museums 11 curatorial divisions, less than 1% of which can be displayed to the public at any given time.
The collections offer crucial keys to the history of the earth and in some cases are the only surviving traces of animals, plants and cultures that have become extinct. See the divisional pages for detailed information on specific holdings.
Yale Peabody Museum Summer Internships
The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History is delighted to announce a summer internship program for undergraduate students affiliated with the Museum, including students that have completed Yale’s The Collections of the Peabody Museum course and bursary students.
Up to 4 fellowships will be offered each with a stipend of $2,250 for a summer project of a minimum duration of 6 weeks. Students will be responsible for their own housing and board.
Interns will participate in the rich variety of research taking place in the Yale Science Hill community, and will work on a semi-independent project with a mentor using the Yale Peabody Museum’s diverse collections. Interns may work with a host-scientist as part of an ongoing research program, or may choose to design a project that investigates a topic of interest. See the listing of Yale Peabody Museum curatorial staff on this website.
Interns will be expected to submit an essay on their research experience for the Fall 2007 issue of the Yale Environmental News.
To apply to the summer internship program send a one-page project description along with a letter of support from the Museum staff member or curator with whom you hope to work by Friday, March 2, 2007, to:
