| What is Palimpsest? And what the heck does that word mean? | Palimpsest
is the arts and literary magazine created by the Yale University community
of graduate and professional schools. It is published every spring and aims
to reinvent the form of the book as well as push the boundaries of artistic
experimentation. Palimpsest is a non-profit publication, facilitated and funded by the McDougal Center and the Yale University Graduate Schools of Arts and Sciences, with additional support from the Graduate and Professional Student Senate. The dictionary defines a palimpsest as: 1: writing material (as a parchment or tablet) used one or more times after earlier writing has been erased; 2: something having diverse layers or aspects apparent beneath the surface; 3: a new magazine by Yale graduate students which pushes the boundaries of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, art, music, graphic, and book design; 4: the layering of voices that results from students across the university creating art in tandem. |
