Laws

The state of Connecticut prohibits work discrimination both in private and in public employment. Discrimination is prohibited both on the basis of sexual orientation and on the basis of gender identity. The State of Connecticut offers same-sex domestic partners health insurance and pension benefits.

A lot is going on at State legislature level both in favor and against lgbt issues. I urge you to keep updated via the Love Makes A Family website and the Connecticut Civil Liberties Union

Private, consensual, non-commercial sexual acts involving adult people of the same sex are legal throughout the US since the Supreme Court sentence in Lawrence vs. Texas of June 2003.

In fact, in Connecticut, they have been legal since 1971.

The city of New Haven prohibits work discrimination in public and private employment on the basis of sexual orientation (but not gender identity). For more information and updates visit the New Haven tab on the HRC website.

Right today (May 5th, 2003) the New Haven boar of Alderpersons rejected the creation of a domestic partner registry. The best way to keep informed on lgbt legislative issues in New Haven is to sign up for the Outland e-mailing list and the LGBT Coop (undergraduates) e-mailing list in particular qpac and Project Orange.
