Props & Costumes

The Yale College Prop/Costume Service provides for the recycling of properties purchased with Yale College Sudler funds, through collection, cataloguing and storage, thereby making more effective use of funds available to students.  These props are then made available to Yale undergraduate students working on theatrical productions. A small fee is assessed to cover the operational costs of providing this service.

Recycling:
A props recycling form is distributed to all students awarded Sudler funds to mount a theatrical production. This form serves as a record of prop purchases made with those funds.  During tech week a member of the prop service will attempt to contact the production staff to go over what props have been purchased and to coordinate the delivery of those props to the storage facility however, it is the responsibility of the Producer to insure that all materials purchased with Sudler Funds are presented to the prop room mgr for addition to the prop inventory. Once the props and the completed form have been recieved by the OUP props mgr, the props will be checked into inventory and the form signed by the mgr. The form must then be signed by Rorie Fitzsimons in the OUP and can then be turned in by the student along with his/her receipts for reimbursement by the Sudler Fund. Starting with the fall 2008 semester, the Sudler Fund will be withholding $200 from reimbursement until the release is signed by the OUP confirming the receipt of items purchased with Sudler Funds in our storage room at 305 Crown St.

Also effective immediately new costumes will only be accepted into inventory at the discretion of the OUP Inventory Mgr. No rented costumes will be accepted for return until they are first laundered/dry cleaned. Items will be refused unless laundered and a late fee of $10 per day will be assessed until such time as the items have been cleaned and returned.

Rental:
The props service will catalogue and store all props by type in the storage facility at 305 Crown St. This props catalogue will then be made available to all producers of undergraduate productions on campus. A rental fee of $1.00 -$10.00 will be assessed per prop up to a maximum of $50.00. Some props of appreciable value may require a deposit that will be returned to the student when the prop is returned in good condition. To encourage timely return of rented props, and to insure their availability to all, a late fee of $10.00 per day will be assessed any student returning props late. All funds generated by the service will be used by the Office of Undergraduate Production to cover the costs of offering and maintaining the service.

Prop Weapons

A limited number of prop weapons are available for rent. Students should contact Rorie Fitzsimons in the OUP directly to discuss their needs. Any prop weapons used in an on campus undergraduate production,

whether rented from this prop service or any other source, must be approved by the OUP through a weapon control plan filed with this office. Any unapproved prop weapons are subject to confiscation.

Operation:  The Yale College Properties Service/Rentals, located in the basement of 305 Crown St., will maintain regular operating hours for the convenience of students. The service will be open every Sunday from 1 - 3 pm for props return/pickup, as well as Wednesday from 4-6 pm.  Other hours may be available by appointment at the discretion of the OUP.
