Theater Studies
Theater has a rich history and literature and an equally rich repertoire of embodied knowledge and theory. As a major in the humanities, Theater Studies emphasizes the reciprocal relationship between practice and scholarly study. The content of required courses in the major is almost equally divided between theory (e.g., dramatic literature, criticism, theater history, performance studies) and practice (e.g., acting, directing, design, playwriting, dance). Students are encouraged to explore intellectual and physical approaches to diverse cultural forms, historical traditions, and contemporary life.
