Congruency of Animal Care Protocols and Research Proposals -What you need to know

Perhaps you have received a notice of award recently only to be informed by grants and contracts preaward unit that there was no indication of “congruency” between the soon to be funded award or non-competing renewal and the IACUC protocol(s) associated with the proposal. While the requirements for congruency between awards and protocols is longstanding, your brush with this potential hurdle may be a first encounter, additionally you may be wondering why this is necessary, what do I have to do to meet the requirements, and how does this effect my ability to charge animal related costs to my award both directly and via a cost-transfer

Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) at Yale

A Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) is a legal contract which documents the transfer of physical material (Material)  between Yale University and an academic, non-profit, or industrial institution. MTAs are most often used to document the transfer of biological materials (plasmids, cell lines, mouse strains, etc.), but may also be used in the transfer of some types of non-biological material.

Any Yale faculty member, at the level of Associate Research Scientist or higher, may request that an MTA be executed by Yale. Post-Doctoral Associates/Fellows and Graduate Students who require materials should make their requests though their research mentors.  All investigators must ensure that the agreement is in place prior to receiving or sending the Material.

MTAs are legal documents binding the University to a set of terms and conditions and are not valid unless signed by an authorized representative from GCA or OCR.

Let the Public Know About Your Important Research Results

Acknowledging full or partial federal sponsor support in all publications and presentations is a requirement of federal awards. These acknowledgements serve the important role of raising public awareness of the value of their tax contribution to advances in science, improvements in health and technology and help agencies justify budget requests to Congress.

Both the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (the major sponsors of research funding at Yale) encourage researchers to “get the word out” about newsworthy research results.

The Office of Public Affairs (OPA) at Yale strongly supports the NSF and the NIH initiatives on accountability to the public and wants to help you get the word out about your newsworthy research results.
