Science Coalition web site will highlight Yale's research and recent discoveries

Yale's scientific advances and ongoing research will be featured May 11-17 on a World Wide Web site sponsored by The Science Coalition, a national resource for information on federally funded university research. Each week, the coalition highlights research at two member universities.

The sampling of a dozen Yale research projects includes a sonar robot, discoveries about a promising new class of cancer drugs called angiogenesis blockers, an optical resonator that could expand the capacity of fiber-optic networks, and a new way of studying the impact of ancient earthquakes. Most of the research was funded by the National Science Foundation or other federal agencies

Each of the research stories has a photograph as well as links to a Yale news release and the researcher's home page. Web browsers also can link to the Yale front door from the site or to web pages for the Faculty of Engineering, the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences or the Yale Medical Center. The page was designed by Victor Velt, video producer for biomedical communications at the School of Medicine.

The coalition web site is found at http://www.sciencecoalition.org. Click on the "On-campus" section for news about research at Yale and other member universities. Visitors to the coalition's site can catch up on the latest legislative news, chat with science enthusiasts in the "Science Café," browse through the "On-campus" archives, or read a multitude of science and technology documents in the web site's library.

The Science Coalition includes over 60 major public and private research universities, and over 350 businesses, health organizations, scientific societies and individuals dedicated to sustaining the federal government's historic commitment to federally funded university science research.
