Office of Business Transformation to help lead transformation of Yale's financial services
Yale has established an Office of Business Transformation to help coordinate the ongoing improvements of its financial and administrative services, particularly those involving sponsored research.
Shauna King, vice president for finance and administration, announced the creation of the new unit earlier this month.
Yale initiated a 100-Day Plan last year -- under the leadership of Andy Rudczynski, associate vice president for research administration -- to develop improved policies, procedures and training.
"These improvements, which are still in the early stages, are essential to creating a research support environment that will continue to attract, retain and support the best faculty and students while maintaining the University's absolute commitment to the fullest compliance with regulatory and sponsor requirements," wrote King.
"Building on the success of the 100-Day Plan," she added, "we have already begun to move ahead with a number of important new initiatives such as the integration of the pre-award offices, faculty and business office training, and a variety of fundamental business process improvements."
The Office of Business Transformation will lead the effort to move Yale from its 100-Day Plan to "a long-term, sustained effort," said King, noting that the new unit will be responsible for providing a "common, client-focused approach to the design and implementation of large-scale business process change at Yale.
"Initially, the office will incorporate and integrate two existing units, Business Services Improvement and Integrated Administrative Systems, which have played valuable historical roles in implementing business process improvements," said King, noting that it "will quickly broaden its scope to lead and assist with strategic business process change in other areas in need of major improvement."
The Office of Business Transformation will be led by Richard Robert ("Bob") Davis, former director of Yale Reprographic & Imaging Services. In addition to playing a lead role in the 100-Day Plan, Davis has "extensive experience in business process redesign in universities and other complex organizations," said King. He will report to Steve Murphy, director of special projects in the Office of Finance and Administration.
