David I. Newton

Longtime city resident named
head of University Properties

David I. Newton, former president of Facilities Resource Management (FRM) and executive vice president of Aramark Facility Services, has been named director of University Properties, heading up the University's non-academic real estate portfolio in New Haven.

In 1998 Aramark purchased FRM, which Newton cofounded in 1977. FRM provided facility management services to nonprofits including colleges, universities, cultural institutions and government agencies throughout the country.

"David is a very able and well-liked 28-year resident of the city of New Haven and will be a great addition to our office," says Bruce Alexander '65, vice president and director of Yale's Office of New Haven and State Affairs.

From 1974 to 1975, Newton was employed at Yale as assistant to the director of University Operations, and from 1975 to 1977 he served as founding executive director of the national Energy Task Force for Higher Education. He received his B.A. from Williams College and a master's degree from Columbia University, Graduate School of Business.

Newton served as a trustee and director for a variety of New Haven nonprofit institutions including the Hopkins School, the Hospital of St. Raphael, Elm Shakespeare Company, Long Wharf Theatre and New Haven Arts Council.
