the James L. Frank Associate Professor

Fiona M. Scott Morton, named the new James L. Frank '32 Associate Professor of Private Enterprise and Management, is an expert on global competitive strategy.

She will hold the post at the Yale School of Management through June 30, 2004.

Morton's articles and scholarly papers have explored such issues as the timing of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval of generic drugs, internet car retailing, and pricing and social ties in the U.S. airline industry, among others. Current projects include an investigation of how owner preferences affect winery organization and competition between educational institutions. Her work has appeared in such publications as the Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, The RAND Journal, the Journal of Industrial Economics and the International Journal of Industrial Organization.

A 1989 graduate of Yale College, Morton earned her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She joined the Yale faculty last year after serving for two years as assistant professor of economics and strategy at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. She previously taught for three years at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, where she received a Distinguished Teaching Commendation for the 1994-95 academic year. In 1998 she received a research grant from the National Science Foundation.

Morton is a member of the American Economics Association and serves on the advisory board of StreamSage.com.
