Science Programs
Yale University offers many in-school, after-school and summertime science programs for students as well as family activities, community lectures and professional development for teachers. We welcome new participants in our educational programs and encourage you to look at our science for the community website for a full list of programs and featured events (www.yale.edu/scienceoutreach).
The University makes its world-class laboratories, courses and talented faculty, students and staff available to encourage young scientists and engineers. Gaining research experience in a Yale University laboratory, examining specimens at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History and watching a planetarium demonstration are just some of the science experiences your students can have through our programs.
There are many opportunities for members of the New Haven community to visit Yale University’s campus, interact with scientists and learn about pioneering scientific discoveries. These include viewing the sky at the Leitner Family Observatory, hearing Yale Professors and local scientists discuss their fascination with their fields of study and share their research findings at Science Saturdays. The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, one of the largest natural history museums in the nation, hosts many public events and is home to exhibits including well-known dinosaurs such as Apatosaurus and Stegosaurus, Egyptian mummies and dioramas of North American wildlife.
Yale University offers several opportunities for educators to expand their skills in science education. Each year through these programs Yale University faculty members and New Haven's teachers work together using the University's world-class resources to study subjects in-depth and develop new curricular materials for the public schools. |
