Michael J. Morand

Biography

Michael J. MorandMichael Morand is Associate Vice President of Yale University for New Haven and State Affairs (www.yale.edu/onhsa). He leads a team of six professional staff to implement Yale’s strategic community partnerships, focusing on economic development, strong neighborhoods with more homeownership and improved public education, and a vital downtown.  Yale’s Office of New Haven and State Affairs also employs over 200 Yale students who work for community improvement efforts.  In the past dozen years, Yale University’s Community Investment Program represents a commitment of more than $100 million to efforts to strengthen New Haven.  Michael also manages Yale's state and municipal government relations. 

He is a graduate of Yale College and of the Yale Divinity School.  Michael has been active in the public sector, serving for two terms on the New Haven Board of Aldermen; as president of the New Haven public library from 1996 to 2003; and on the State of Connecticut’s Judicial Selection Commission from 2000 to 2003; and currently on the New Haven Development Commission.  He serves on the executive committees of the New Haven Chamber of Commerce and the national Urban Libraries Council, and is a member of the board of directors of the Hill Development Corporation, Greater Dwight Development Corporation, Empower New Haven, the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, and the Patrons of the New Haven Free Public Library.
