Computing & Information Systems, Data Network Operations
Campus Data Network Rates - Effective January 1, 1996
- Standard Connection - $18.50/month per computer
- Available for Macintosh and Windows computers, standard service provides a Campus Data
Network connection and support for standard Yale and Internet communications software
including: electronic mail, calendar/scheduling software, WWW browser (Netscape), File
Transfer (FTP), NetNews reader, and terminal emulation for access to Orbis and Yale
administrative systems.
- Remote Access to the Campus Network- $18.50 or $5/month per computer
- Remote access options include AppleTalk Remote Access Services for Macintosh computers
and "PPP" services for other computer systems to allow clients to obtain full data network services
across a telephone connection. These services are available at $18.50 per month per computer to
clients for whom this is their only Yale network connection; clients who also subscribe to an office
network connection may obtain remote access services for $5/month per computer.
- Installation Fees - $200 or $40
- Installation fees are $200 per connection until the building wiring projects are completed. As
soon as the wiring project is completed in a building, the fee to activate an existing wall jack in that
building will drop to $40. This fee is waived for a connection activated for immediate use in
conjunction with a building wiring project; Data Network Operations will contact occupants in
each building in advance of its wiring project to identify connections to be made as part of the
project.
- Setup fees for a remote access account are $40.
- Local Support Options for Schools and Departments
- Schools and departments which already provide local network equipment, software and
support staff may use one of two local support options:
- Basic local support at $12/month per computer provides a Campus Data Network
connection but no communications software or support. It is intended primarily for clients
who use a machine other than Macintosh or Windows. The individual or local support group
is responsible for providing and supporting all desktop network software.
- Available to a group which manages its own large network, the private network option at
$6.50/month/computer ($325/month minimum charge) provides a single gateway connection to
the Campus Data Network. The department or work group is responsible for providing all
internal wiring, electronics, desktop software and client support and for diagnosing and
correcting any network problems which may occur in the private network.
Please refer questions about these rates to Joseph Paolillo, Associate Director, C&IS, for Data
Network Operations, 2-6673 or Joseph.Paolillo@yale.edu.
