Helpful Hint -

suppressing the list of recipients when you email to groups How Bcc can be your friend

Bcc means "blind carbon copy." The name(s) in the Bcc field are not visible to the recipient(s) of the message.

If you've ever received email in which you have to scroll down through several screens of recipients before finding the meat of the message, you'll appreciate the following:

The elegant way to send email to a group:
  1. Create your distribution list

*Pine - from the Address Book choose "Create a List"

*Quickmail - from the Address Book, create a Group

    *Eudora - use nicknames.

Consult your documentation for detailed instructions.

  2. When you create your message

*put your own name in the To: field

*put the name of your distribution list in the Bcc: field.

Important: you must put a name in the To: field for this to work properly.

NOTE: Pine users usually don't see a Bcc: field. Remedy: While your cursor is in the header of your mail message, press ctrl-R (for Rich Headers) and voila, Bcc: will be available.

Recommendation: Experiment with a small distribution list (three or four names) before you use it with a large list.

Yale Macintosh Users Group

YMUG meets the first Wednesday of every month. The meetings are lively gatherings where you can meet other Macintosh users with similar interests. During the question and answer period, no question or problem is too trivial or esoteric. YMUG members with all levels of experience share their experience and knowledge. This is also a good opportunity to seek advice about software and hardware you may be thinking of buying.

Meetings take place in Kline Geology Labs, Room 123, 210 Whitney Ave., New Haven, Connecticut at 7:30pm. The meeting room has a large-screen color video projection system on which we can demonstrate new products. Main meetings are open to all, and membership in YMUG is also open to those outside the Yale community.

Web site

There is a portfolio of B&W photographs by Yale photographer Bill Sacco at the Yale Macintosh Users' Group's web site:

One group was taken in and around a West Haven beach house in the 1970s, and the others are more recent and assorted. Anyone who appreciates B&W photography is invited to have a look. Eventually a number of underwater pictures and others in color will be added to this on-line exhibition.
