Don't assume anymore that it's a waste of money to purchase a service contract. Prices are getting so attractive for post warranty coverage that it many cases it's foolish not to invest in a service contract. For example a contract on an Apple LaserWriter II is $45 a year while a single repair frequently involves several hours of labor (at $45 per hour) plus expensive replacement parts. The Repair Unit of the Microcomputer Support Center offers post warranty coverage on the brands that we sell including Apple, DEC, HP, IBM, and Zenith equipment. AppleCare, transferable Apple backed coverage offered through MCSC, has been drastically reduced in price. Coverage on a Macintosh SE/30 with 80MB hard disk used to cost $277 per year - the same coverage is now available for $67!
