General Counselors Expectations

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Be in touch with participants, as assigned, before arrival on campus
  • Help  with arrival logistics including OIS check-in and assistance with luggage
  • Participate in ALL orientation activities during program
  • Play an active role in development and implementation of evening programs
  • Serve as a mentor/buddy to the new students during OIS and beyond
  • Oversee the well being of all participants

Dates

  • Attend OIS informational/training session at end of Spring semester, date and time TBA
  • Program dates for participants from August 20-23
  • Counselor Arrival
  • Temporary rooms available to Counselors on Friday August 17
  • Mandatory arrival by Saturday August 18 at noon to begin training and preparations


Head Counselor Expectations

Head Counselor Application

  • Two head counselors will be selected to lead the program generally through an interview process
  • Fill out the on line application and be sure to complete the last two questions
  • You will be contacted for an interview upon review of the applications

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Attend planning session with Ann and Monica in April
  • Lead information/training session for counselors before summer recess
  • Play a major role in the architecture and implementation of the program
  • Help in the decision making process about OIS 2011 activities
  • Organize pre-arrival  Facebook site and other pre arrival communication
  • Assist in the administration and organization of all program details and activities
  • Have a significant presence at all events
  • Serve as role model for the counselor group, setting the tone of enthusiasm and responsibility.

Dates

  • Both head counselors need to be available to work at OISS a week before orientation begins, arriving on campus by August 13
  • Housing arrangements for that period need to be made by the individual
