Yale Campus Tour

The Yale Visitor’s Center will provide us with a glimpse into the history and architecture of the University. The tours start at the Yale Visitor Center at 149 Elm Street New Haven, CT 06511. Though this tour, you’ll get to hear about Yale’s rich 300-year history and aspects of student life at several of Yale’s twelve residential colleges.

Walk through downtown New Haven & bar hop

Come join us for a fun walk through New Haven as we explore some of the most notable touristic spots of the city! The stops will include Beinecke Plaza, Grove Cemetery, Sterling Memorial Library, the New Haven Green... and of course we'll introduce you to a couple of the most notable bars in downtown New Haven. We'll meet at the OISS and walk from there. Don't forget to bring cash for your purchase(s).

J-Visa Information Session & New Haven Pizza

Understanding the J Visa: an informational conversation followed by pizza! Are you sure you understand what the Two Year Home Residency Requirement is? Did you know that OISS can grant work permission for certain activities outside of Yale? What's the difference between the ECFMG and the OISS J-1? Is it true that a J-2 spouse can get work permission for three years? Can I apply for a green card while on a J visa? The presenter will be Parker Emerson, Associate Director of OISS with over 25 years of experience navigating the complexities and benefits of the J visa. Bring your questions and your appetite! The event is free, but registration is required.

Bus trip to Boston, MA

Spend the day exploring the beautiful city of Boston on your own or with other Yale affiliates- sightseeing, visiting museums, shopping, or dining. You will also have the option of following your “OISS host”, Parker Emerson (former Harvard staff) in the morning for a guided tour around Harvard Square in Cambridge. Tip: You should wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for the weather (we will be going rain or shine!)

Note: the fee covers round-trip transportation only; you will be responsible for any other expenses. Unfortunately there can be no children under the age of 7 on the bus trip. All sales are final!

Yale Cabaret: The Life and Death of Doctor Faustus

Canoeing at East Rock Park
Trowbridge Environmental Center (East Rock Park)

Join us on this classic team-oriented activity, which requires minimum or no prior knowledge of paddling skills. The Parks and Rec team of certified instructors and canoe leaders will be there to provide you with ample opportunity for learning basic paddling techniques, and for wildlife observation. This is an event envisioned for adults or dependents who are at least 10 yrs old.

Movies at the Park: Casablanca

Every Friday at 8:30 from June 5th to August 28th, the New Haven Parks and Rec Department will show a movie in a different city park. This weekend's will be the classic A-list 1942 movie Casablanca, and it will be featured at Wooster Square!

We'll meet at the OISS at 8pm, and then walk to Wooster Square from there. Feel free to bring blankets and snacks!

Bus Trip to Newport RI

Take a chartered bus to beautiful Newport, Rhode Island. You have the day to go exploring on your own. There is a lot to see and do in Newport — visit a historic mansion, walk along the Cliff Walk, take a boat tour, rent a scooter/moped, shop, dine out or have a picnic lunch. Trip fee covers transportation only; you will be responsible for any other expenses. Space is limited!
