Depending on where you live and where you need to go, a variety of transportation options are available in New Haven and the surrounding areas. Most people find it easiest to get around town on foot or on a bicycle. If you live outside of the city of New Haven, you may want to buy a car or use the public bus. For short trips within the region – to New York City, Boston, or other parts of New England, for example – you can take the train or bus, or rent a car. There are also several airports in the area if you will be traveling to other areas of the U.S.
Many international students and scholars make use of the Yale International e-mail group to request or offer ride shares. This can help defray some of the cost for things like gasoline and tolls if you are traveling by car.
