If you owe money, make your check payable to:

United States Treasury - for all federal returns (both resident and non-resident)

Commissioner of Revenue Services - for CT state returns (both resident and non-resident/part year)

Remember to sign and date your forms.

Remember to attach appropriate copies of your income statement(s) (W-2, 1042-S, 1099) to your federal income tax return. CT does not require copies of your income statements for your state income tax return.

Keep copies of all forms and documents submitted!

"Where's My Refund" (federal returns)

You can go online to check the status of your refund 72 hours after the IRS acknowledges receipt of your e-filed return, or 3 to 4 weeks after you mail a paper return.

Go to www.irs.gov and click on Where's My Refund. Have a copy of your tax return handy. You will need to provide the following information from your return:

  • Your social security number (SSN) or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN),
  • Your filing status, and
  • The exact whole dollar amount of your refund

IRS refunds are sent out weekly on Fridays. If you check the status of your refund and are not given the date it will be issued, please wait until the next week before checking back.

  • 1-800-829-4477 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for automated refund information.
