Don’t forget that in addition to your U.S. income tax returns (which are due this year on April 17, 2012), you also have your Canadian income tax returns to prepare (these are due April 30th). In order for you (or your designate, i.e., parents, spouse) to claim your educational credits, you will need to have Yale complete and certify the TL11A form (Tuition, Education, and Textbook Amounts Certificate - University Outside Canada). You can download this form and instructions from Revenue Canada’s Web site:
For students at Yale College or the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, you will need to print out the TL11A (fill in your name) and take this to the FAS Registrar's Office on the 3rd floor of 246 Church Street. You will drop it off there and it will take a day or two for them to complete and certify it with the Yale seal. You will then return to that office to pick it up.
For professional school students, bring your TL11A to your school’s registrar or financial services office.
This TL11A form needs to be done each year for Canadian income tax purposes.
