DOL Prevailing Wage Delays

A key component (and the very first step) of both the H-1B and EB-2 green card process is obtaining a "prevailing wage determination" from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL.) The entire operation changed from a local system to the National Prevailing Wage Center and became both inflexible and more time consuming. Before hiring a new H-1B employee please speak to your OISS advisor about the current Prevailing Wage processing time. As of Spring 2012 this step alone is taking 60 to 90 days. It is only after the prevailing wage is issued, and has been determined to be useable that the rest of the H-1B visa process may continue.
