When to Arrive

Immigration regulations allow you to enter the United States no more than 30 days prior to the start date on your F-1 or J-1 immigration document, the I-20 or DS-2019.

Students and scholars who plan to live off-campus should arrive a couple of weeks before the term begins in order to allow enough time to locate suitable and affordable accommodations.

Students should plan to arrive in New Haven in time to settle in and attend orientation sessions held before the beginning of classes.

iconChecking in with OISS

All new international students and scholars must check in with the Office of International Students and Scholars as soon as you arrive in New Haven.

OISS has organized specific check in times based on your Yale status. You can find the right check in time for you on our Orientation pages.

Cancelling or Changing Your Plans

If your plans change and you cannot come to Yale, or if you have to defer your arrival to a different date, please contact OISS at oiss@yale.edu.
