Accept Your Offer of EmploymentYou must receive, and accept, an offer of employment or research appointment from Yale before we are able to start the process to issue your necessary immigration documents. |

Yale Departmental Notification to OISS of New HireYour Yale Department must submit your job information to OISS. This is done through eScholar, our online notification system. You should have been invited to submit biographical data and passport information through this system. If you are in the U.S. on another visa status please send the department copies of your current visa. |

Issuing the Immigration FormsYour visa sponsorship for your time at Yale will be determined by OISS in consultation with your host department. Once you have your immigration documentation please review these for biographical and appointment accuracy. Contact OISS for guidance on correcting any errors. |

Applying for the Scholar VisaYou must have your immigration document to schedule your actual visa appointment. Apply early! A list of U.S. consulates is available on the Web. Application instructions for a each type of visa can be found on the embassy Web site. You can view a sample of the visa application (DS-160) here. |

![]() Arrive in the U.S. Upon arrival you will be inspected by a Customs and Border Protection officer and complete the I-94 data collection. Before you leave the officer make sure your passport has a new ink entry stamp (sample at right). |

Check-in with OISS Before completing the OISS check-in you will need to print out your I-94 arrival data. |
