Boardwalk Festival

By Qingcheng Huang, the OISS 2012 Summer Intern

There are always surprises during the Yale Summer Session, and this weekend I encountered a really great surprise: the Boardwalk Festival right in our college's courtyard!

The Boardwalk Festival was held on a Friday afternoon. There were balloons and posters on the gates advertising the event, and many students from other colleges came to enjoy the activities.

1

During the festival there was plenty of free food such as biscuits, cotton candy, and popcorn.

2

These was face painting and Henna Tatoos booths under a tree. I learned that the painting could be easily washed away by make-up remover, so it was easy to have a try.

3

There were so many food stands, tattoo booths and a fun bounce house in the courtyard. Students gathered together to play cards, volleyball, and football on the lawn. It was a great chance to throw away your stress and bounce like little kids.

4

When the evening arrived, two bands showed up and sang until midnight. Our college master joined in with the bands, too!

5

A cute dog was wandering around the lawn during the first band's performance. One of my friends, who is afraid of dog, ran away from that little dog as quickly as she could! It was like a scene from a comedy movie! My friend was lucky she got away because after she left a German shepherd dog joined the festival.

The festival was great fun. I definitely enjoyed the free food and the wonderful friendships I'm forming with my fellow Yale classmates.
