Waste Management
The Environmental Affairs Section is responsible for managing
all hazardous and regulated waste chemical, radioactive and
biomedical) activities within the University. Specific responsibilities
include: decay in storage of radioactive waste; implementation
of all government regulations pertaining to the inspection,
handling, storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous
and regulated waste; preparation, submission, and maintenance
of required records, reports, and manifests as required by
government regulations; evaluation of waste minimization methods
and technologies; improvement and implementation of procedures
for deactivation or treatment of hazardous materials in the
laboratory; provision of technical assistance, and training
of laboratory personnel in identifying and disposing of hazardous
regulated waste.
