Allosteric Ribozyme by Ron Breaker, Henry Ford II Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB), HHMI Investigator

A proposed mechanism for allosteric inhibition of an ATP-sensitive hammerhead ribozyme. Depicted are five superimposed orientations for an ATP-binding RNA aptamer that represent a series of conjoined aptamer/ribozyme constructs. The aptamer's protruding hairpin generates a procession of spatial orientations arrayed around the helical screw axis of a central connective stem as the number of base pairs comprising this stem is varied.
