YOUNG ARTIST RECITALS

Catch a rising star as the Festival presents its YOUNG ARTIST RECITAL Series – performances by Fellows of the Yale Summer School of Music.

Norfolk Fellows perform for the community free of charge each Thursday evening, Saturday morning and, during the final two weeks of the Chamber Music Session, Tuesday evening. Programs and ensembles are chosen weekly. Repertoire includes the staples of chamber music from Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert to Villa-Lobos, Bartok, Shostakovich, Barber and Poulenc. Each concert features strings, piano, winds and brass, sometimes in surprising combinations. Check this website for weekly program updates during the summer.

Throughout the years Norfolk audiences have heard hundreds of emerging artists who have gone on to successful professional careers. Norfolk alumni perform with the most illustrious musical organizations in the world: the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony, the Saint Lawrence, Muir, Miro, Ying, Brentano, Shanghai and Maia string quartets; the Claremont and Eroica Trios; and new music ensembles such as Eighth Blackbird and the Bang On A Can All Stars. Syoko Aki, Claude Frank, Pamela Frank, Frederica von Stade and Richard Stoltzman are all former students of Norfolk.

Whether you are an aficionado or a chamber music novice you will appreciate the wonderful performances and casual environment these recitals offer. Families with children are most welcome.

Recitals are held on Thursdays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 10:30am, and select Tuesdays at 7:30pm during July and August.
