1996: Ph.D. at Goettingen University. Dissertation topic: Einleitung in die Sanherib-Inschriften (Introduction to the inscriptions of Sennacherib). Oral comprehensive exam in Assyriology, Egyptology, and Islamic Studies.
1989: B.A. ("Zwischenpruefung") in Assyriology, Egyptology, and Semitic Studies at Heidelberg University.

since 2002: Assistant Professor of Assyriology at Yale University.
2001-2002: Assistant Professor of Assyriology at Heidelberg University.
1998-2001: Research Assistant at the Department for Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Heidelberg University within a research project, directed by Prof. S. M. Maul, on the pantheon, cultic topography, and cultic calendar of Assur (realized within the Leibniz Program of the German Research Council).
1997-1999: Lecturer for Akkadian at Mainz University, Fachbereich 15 (Philology).
1992-1996: Assistant at the Department for Cuneiform Studies, Goettingen University.

Fall 2001: Epigrapher of the German archaeological mission at Assur (Qal'at Sherqat), Iraq.
since 1993: Several month-long stays at the British Museum, London, and the Vorderasiatisches Museum, Berlin. Extensive travels in the Middle East.

1996-1998: Grant of the German Research Council for a post-doc position in the "Graduiertenkolleg" ([post-]graduate school) "Religion and Normativity" (founded by Prof. J. Assmann and Prof. Th. Sundermeier) at Heidelberg University.
