Bauble French, probably19th century
Maker unknown
This grisly-faced wand is intended to evoke the jester's scepter of late medieval times. The long handle is made of highly polished, fine-grained hardwood and is surmounted by a monkey's head carved from green animal horn. Suspended form the animal's neck are long bands of silk brocade, from several of which dangle chased silver pellet bells.
A paper label with an ink insciption (now illegible) is pasted to the lower part of the handle. Bell and handle of glass. Overall height 38.5 cm,
