Interesting Facts:
This summer when I was studying in Jordan, I was walking with my brother up the hill to our apartment when a large, muscular man in his mid 30's yelled "Hey." Since the man was at the bottom of the hill and unfamiliar to us, I thought he was talking to someone else and continued walking to our apartment. Seconds later another "Hey" was heard, this time a bit louder and when I turned around this time, I saw the man walking towards me. My older brother suggested ignoring him but clearly ignoring a large Arab man in the middle of the night would only make things worse. I approached the man (my brother discreetly tiptoeing to the apartment), and he yelled with some clear English expletives, "Why were you ignoring me and why did you walk on my property." To make things worse, at that very instant a car pulled near us and six of this man's friends came, in rapid Arabic asking if anything was wrong. Still having no idea what I had done, but thinking clearly that this man along with his posse might pick a fight, I began to apologize profusely for whatever this man accused me of. When I happened to mention in broken, rushed Arabic that I was a young, little Muslim student from America here to study Arabic and learn tajwid, the man's entire demeanor changed. He said nothing was wrong, we were now like brothers, andif I ever needed anything, his house was always open..."
