Research

Generally, my scientific interests focus on the genetic basis and evolution of bacterial adaptation to distinct host niches. To this end, I mainly use genomic and bioinformatic methods. Further, I complement these approaches with experimental work to characterize adaptive functions involved in such intimate microbe-host interactions. Currently, I am working on the distinctive gut microbiota of honey and bumble bee species with the aim to understand the functional role of the bacteria found in these social insects and reveal their symbiotic capabilities.
