Who is Magevet?
Magevet is Yale's finest (not to mention only) coed a cappella group devoted to singing Jewish, Hebrew and Israeli music. Founded in 1993 in the Calhoun College sauna (hence the unusual name, which is Hebrew for "towel"), Magevet is known worldwide for its sweet blend of voices and for its unique repertoire. We bring together music from around the world in an eclectic mix of Italian Renaissance pieces, modern Israeli pop hits, Yiddish love songs, Yemenite nashids, and more. Traveling around the globe together, Magevet's members perform in venues as diverse as the world's largest freshwater aquarium (located in Chattanooga, TN) and London's Westminster Abbey. This year, we will welcome the tap class of 2007 to travel with us to San Francisco and Spain, and to join in the friendship, laughter, and musical excellence that define the group.
How to Join
Magevet accepts new members at the beginning of each academic year. During September, there will be a number of opportunities to see Magevet perform on campus and talk with and get to know the present group members. Interested freshmen, sophomores and juniors can then sign up for an audition with the group, which is followed by a "rush meal," another opportunity to eat with a group member and ask more questions about the group. Then, one night Magevet will sneak into all the campus dorms and tap its newest class of Magevites!
For more information about rush and the rush process, as well as an updated rush calendar, check this page again in August 2008. For any questions or comments, e-mail rush@magevet.com.
