When we're not in New Haven serenading the Yale campus, Magevet tours around the United States and the world, sharing our unique approach to Jewish and Israeli music. During the year, we perform around the Northeastern US, and during school vacations, we travel to more distant Jewish communities. Recent tour stops include Amsterdam, Paris, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Toronto, and Florida.
Magevet at a concert in Amsterdam
Magevet performances are flexible and can be tailored to suit your particular needs. Some of our favorite venues include synagogues, Jewish community centers, and schools, but we have also been heard at forums as diverse as National Public Radio and the UAHC Biennial Convention. We welcome opportunities for all types and lengths of concerts—our expansive repertoire allows us to perform for up to two hours, but concerts can run as short as fifteen minutes. We feel equally comfortable performing at intimate, interactive gatherings and at formal black-tie stage appearances. Our business managers will work with you to customize a concert that best fits your community, but here are some popular examples:
Shabbat Concerts take advantage of Magevet's diverse repertoire to enrich both the liturgical and communal aspects of Shabbat. For example, Magevet can begin a synagogue Shabbat dinner with our jazz arrangement of Shalom Aleichem, enhance services with our 16th century versions of Mi Chamocha and Yism'chu, and liven up an oneg afterwards with an upbeat selection of Israeli hits.
Formal Saturday Evening Concerts are a wonderful way to bring your community together for a musical end to Shabbat. In the past, we have led Havdalah prayers, ending with our own intricate arrangement of Eliyahu Hanavi. The group has then segued into a full-length formal concert appropriate as Saturday night entertainment.
Hebrew School Concerts give students a fresh taste of the richness of Jewish culture and a new perspective on the pleasure of involvement in Jewish activities. After a large assembly, we can run workshops with students in smaller groups, allowing students to appreciate Jewish music in a more participatory manner.
