The Les Aspin '60 International Public Service
Fellowships were established by the Yale College Class of
1960 to honor the memory of their classmate, Les Aspin, a former
member of Congress and United States Secretary of Defense. (Click
here for more information on Les Aspin.) The fund supports
Yale College undergraduates in summer internships related to the
study of national security and international affairs, in the public
or nonprofit private sector. The internships may be with a U.S.
government agency, or a nonprofit corporation or non-governmental
organization. Grants are awarded to sophmores and juniors with
preference given to students in the International Studies Major.

Auerbach Grayson/Leitner International Internships support internships for Yale
College sophomores and juniors in brokerage and/or investment banking firms in
developing countries. All of the internship sites are international affiliates of Auerbach
Grayson, an international brokerage firm based in New York. Internship sites for
summer 2008 will be in African countries. Prospective candidates are encouraged to
visit the Auerbach Grayson website www.agco.com to learn more about Auerbach
Grayson and its affiliate firms prior to applying.
The internships are intended to provide international work experience and to complement
language study and other academic pursuits. Grants are intended to subsidize
transportation and living expenses while working in an uncompensated position at the
firm for a minimum of eight weeks. Approximately six internships will be awarded for
summer 2008.
Candidates will be selected on the basis of their academic and extracurricular activities,
the potential impact that this internship will have on their academic and career plans, and
their foreign language skills. Some preference will be given to students with relatively less
prior international travel experience. Candidates whose language skills match the main
language of the proposed countries may have some competitive advantage in the selection
process; however, students with language skills not matching the main language of the
proposed countries are welcome to apply. Students will not be selected for internships in

The Albert Bildner Travel Prize. Open
to Junior undergraduate students only, the Bildner Prize supports
travel to Latin America or the Caribbean for summer research related
to the senior essay. The Council grants one Bildner prize

Coca-Cola Overseas Projects for Summer. The Coca-Cola World Fund at Yale will provide funding on a competitive basis for worthy field projects overseas during the summer of 2008. Such projects are expected to enable undergraduate students to apply their initiative and intellect to research, understand and test solutions to policy problems in foreign countries.
Innovative projects that address water and other natural resource issues, public health issues, micro- or macro- development issues in less developed countries, waste stream/life cycle issues, or democracy and empowerment issues are invited. An article or essay on the project must be written and in acceptable format for publication in a student publication (e.g., the Yale Globalist, the Yale Herald, Abroad View) by the end of the 2008 fall semester.
Preference will be given to projects that will also immerse the student in the language and culture of the foreign area, and strengthen the student's links with professionals and/or scholars in the target country.
Five awards are likely, each up to $5,000, for summer 2008. Sophomores and Juniors are eligible to apply. Awards may cover the recipient's travel and living costs. A brief written report of the experience must be submitted to the MacMillan Center at the completion of the award.

The MacMillan Center announces the Dresdner/Leitner International Internship for the summer of 2008. This internship, available to sophomores and juniors in Yale College, provides a grant of up to $6,000 to support the selected student's travel and living expenses while serving as an unpaid intern for a period of eight weeks in the Singapore office of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein Bank. Under direction of senior sales management, the intern will assist with the day-to-day workings of the foreign exchange sales desk. In addition it is expected that the intern will assist a senior manager with a longer term project. Candidates should have a keen interest in the workings of the financial markets and instruments, coupled with good analytical abilities. Candidates should also have good interpersonal and communication skills.

Dreyfus Fellowships are
for Yale graduate and undergraduate students who are children and
grandchildren of U.S. Foreign Service Officers. Awards to Yale students,
based on merit, will be made by the DACOR Bacon House Foundation
in consultation with Yale University. Fellowships are provided by
an endowment created from a bequest of the late Ambassador Louis
G. Dreyfus, Jr. that is administered directly by the Diplomatic and Consular Officers Retired (DACOR) - Bacon House
Foundation. The MacMillan Center serves as an on-campus liaison. Awards range from $5,000 to
$10,000.
There is no restriction as to field of study, but

The Fox
International Fellowship Program supports research exchanges

Parker Huang Undergraduate Travel Fellowships are
awarded annually for advanced language study or the study of socio-cultural
topics in the language of a non-English speaking country. First
preference is given to proposals for projects in China; thereafter,
elsewhere in Asia, Africa or other regions (such as Central Asia,
the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, Russia, Latin America or the Middle
East). The awards are intended to support either advanced language
study (begun at Yale or elsewhere) or study/work focusing on socio-cultural
issues in the host country. Proposals may include either university
study, independent projects, or an unpaid or low-paying work experience.
Eligible are students in Yale College who are U.S. citizens and
who will have at least Junior standing by the beginning date of
the award. Graduating Seniors are eligible to apply. The Fellowship

Leitner Project Awards are intended as venture capital for original undergraduate summer projects outside the United States. A project may test a business or scholarly idea, explore a personal interest, or pursue a unique internship experience, under the sponsorship of a member of the faculty. A project maybe academic or career-related, or both, or neither. If the project is an internship, it may be with agovernment agency, NGO, or business organization.
Successful projects in a foreign country generally require competency in the language, identification o and access to sources, a realistic budget and plan for completion of the project, and the opportunity to publish and disseminate the project results. Successful applications will demonstrate significant initiative and preparation, including a well-considered proposal, letters of invitation or offers of internship,indications of interest from editors of appropriate publications (e.g. Yale Herald, the Globalist, etc.) and a letter from the sponsoring faculty member.
The MacMillan Center expects to at least 10 awards of up to $5,000 for the summer of 2008. Secondary sources of funds are encouraged. Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors are eligible. The Charles
Kao Fund supports grants to
students of Yale College (including graduating seniors), graduate
students in M.A. and Ph.D. programs in the Graduate School of
Arts and Sciences, and graduate students in the professional schools
for summer research in East and Southeast Asia. In general, applications
from international students proposing research projects in their
country or origin are ineligible. Research should focus on the
impact of technology transfer processes between Asia and the West
and/or among East and Southeast Asia, and the social, cultural,
and political transformations in these regions. Grant requests
of up to $5,000 to support field research, summer internships
or other creative projects in Asia will be entertained. Priority
will be given to students with demonstrated long-term academic

The Mitsubishi/Leitner
International Internship. The MacMillan Center announces two Mitsubishil/Leitner International Internships in Tokyo, Japan for the summer of 2008. One intern will research private equity markets in Japan for a financial services unit of the Mitsubishi Companies. The intern will be responsible for preparing an overview report which addresses categories of transactions, sources of investment projects, sources of funds, returns on investment, comparisons with U.S. markets, future prospects, etc., and will also prepare a presentation package to potential U.S. investors on Japanese private equity. Henry Hart Rice Foreign
Residence Fellowships provide support for Yale students
in the humanities and social sciences to conduct individual
study and research for 9 to 12 months while in residence in
a foreign country that is experiencing strained relations with
the United States. At present, eligible are countries of Africa,
Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe that are not members
of the EU, Russia, Latin America, the Middle East, South and
Southeast Asia as well as the People’s Republic of China.
Excluded are most of the traditional friends and allies of the
U.S., including Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand,
and countries that are members of the EU. Eligible are undergraduates
who have completed at least two years of course work, including
graduating seniors; graduate and professional students who have
permission from their Director of Graduate Studies to take a
year’s leave of absence for this purpose; and graduate
students at the conclusion of a terminal master’s program.
The fellowship stipend may cover most or all travel and living
expenses in the host country; generally one award is made.

The Women, Religion, and Globalization Project at Yale invites proposals from Yale graduate, undergraduate and professional school students for summer projects or internships that focus on women, religion, and globalization. We are particularly interested in projects that explore the relationships between women’s daily practices of religion and the processes of globalization. We will consider projects that involve collaboration among students, especially if they involve research across disciplines. Projects must focus on issues related to globalization, and may be based in the US or overseas. Awards are expected to be in the range of $500-$3000 per student.
